Business Cards, Pt. 1

Business cards. Your #1 marketing tool. How does yours look? Can I easily find who you are and your contact information? Who is your target age group? If you are servicing the 40+ age group, those fonts need to be larger (at least 7 point for Arial or Times). A good way to notice if your card is easy to read is simply notice how a person holds the card – if they are moving their arms back and forth (what I call auto-focusing), then the fonts are too small!

The standard business card measures 3.5″ x 2″. That is 7 square inches, quite a bit of space to better inform, educate and get prospects interested in what you do. You don’t need to cover every square inch of space with information though – “white space” is your friend. Leave plenty of it and people will have a much easier time in reading the information on the card. Since there are two sides to your business card, consider putting some of the information on the back. This is another way to unclutter the front and highlight some specific information on the back that you feel is important to deliver to prospects and clients. This is a good place to add your social networking information, a tag line and (now becoming very popular) a QR code.
